What is BB-GLOW treatment?

developed in 2016, BB Glow quickly attracted worldwide attention - not least thanks to the highly regarded advertising slogan "Foundation for the Year". Beauticians, customers and experts regularly discuss the BB Glow method and the media report on it. The popularity of the procedure, which originated in South Korea, now extends far beyond Southeast Asia.

The Dermapen device was originally developed for fractional mesotherapy, in which a movable needle cartridge creates numerous vertical micro-points on the skin's surface through which the previously applied beauty product penetrates deep into the skin's glands.

BB Glow treatment uses the same device, but with special nanocartridges whose needles are only 0.1 mm long, while the working length of needles for mesotherapy starts at 0.3 to 0.4 mm.

BB Glow treatment is limited to the upper layers of the epidermis and consists of applying an emulsion consisting of a skin-colored pigment combined with a light moisturizing or vitamin complex, often containing high-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid. The emulsion is injected into the upper layers of the epidermis and moisturizes the skin.

How is the BB-GLOW treatment performed?

Preparation for BB-Glow treatment

It is not necessary for the patient to prepare or undergo a restrictive regimen prior to treatment with BB-Glow. However, before the treatment, there should be a written confirmation that the patient has no intolerance to the ingredients of the product. If this is not possible, an allergy test must be performed at least one day before the treatment. After a deep peeling, it is recommended to perform the treatment only after a break of two weeks.

The patient is placed on a couch and the hair is put under a cap. The face is then cleansed of makeup and dirt. In addition, a light superficial enzymatic peeling with fruit acids can be performed. Before applying the serum, the skin is disinfected with an antiseptic solution and dried.

Tinting

The tinting emulsion is applied to the entire face with a cosmetic brush. The dermapen is used to spread the product in the direction of the massage lines. Each zone is treated 2 to 4 times, bypassing the individual elements of the rash and the individual benign formations. At the end of the treatment, the remaining serum is removed with a napkin.

Cooling face mask

Next, a cooling face mask is applied to the face for 10-15 minutes to relieve possible side effects of the treatment - skin irritation and redness. Finally, a revitalizing moisturizer is applied.

Duration of the treatment

The treatment lasts approximately one hour.

What do I need for the BB-Glow treatment?

To perform the BB Glow treatment, the user needs relatively few devices and consumables:

  • A Dermapen
  • a set of nanocartridges for the treatment;
  • a coloring serum in ampoules.

Technically, the BB Glow procedure is easy to learn, even if the beautician has no medical training. Since only the top layer of the skin is treated, the procedure is harmless and does not pose any serious health risks.

There are very few contraindications to the use of the procedure:

  • Allergy to ingredients of the serum (vitamins, etc.)
  • Acute inflammatory skin diseases (acne, eczema, neurodermatitis, psoriasis) in the area of application;
  • Multiple benign neoplasms (nevi, warts, papillomas), malignant tumors in the application area;
  • All fresh skin injuries (wounds, burns, frostbite) in the application area;
  • Epilepsy.

During the treatment with BB Glow, the needle does not need to penetrate the blood vessels, so the injection of the serum is not painful.

As a result, the treatment can be performed even in conditions that are on the traditional list of contraindications for injection methods with exposure of deeper layers of the skin (pregnancy and lactation, coagulopathy, decompensated diabetes, cardiac, respiratory and renal insufficiency).

However, the use of BB Glow in excessively dry or oily skin must be weighed individually, as the treatment may aggravate the problem.

The BB Glow Effect: Expectation and Reality

BB-Glow treatment is often touted as a panacea for all skin problems. However, in fact, it cannot solve all problems.

To understand how the treatment works, it is important to know how the treatment process works. During the treatment, a special serum is applied to the skin, which gradually penetrates into the skin for a long-lasting effect.

It is claimed that the treatment can lead to a number of results, including reducing pigmentation, brightening the skin, permanently smoothing the complexion, restoring elasticity and smoothing wrinkles, as well as reducing scars and hypertrophic appearance.

As you can see, BB Glow treatment is a popular and effective treatment method that can achieve a number of positive results. However, it is important to note that it cannot solve all skin problems. Therefore, it is advisable to consult a beautician before the treatment to determine if it is suitable for your skin.

1. BB Glow is primarily a masking treatment.

BB Glow serums do not contain lightening ingredients such as vitamin C, arbutin or hydroquinone. Therefore, they are not helpful in the complex fight against pigmentation disorders.

However, by applying a tinting emulsion, BB Glow treatment can be used as a primer with long-term effect to conceal problem areas.

BB Glow softens wrinkles, moisturizes and visually refreshes the skin. This is due to the additives used and the dermabrasion effect.

Thus, with the tint serum can be successfully concealed:

  • Freckles;
  • Post-acne;
  • not too pronounced scarring;
  • pigmentation spots that are not too large or too contrasting;
  • slight unevenness of the skin tone;
  • slight couperosis;
  • moderately enlarged pores.

The BB-Glow technique is not effective at masking

  • dark circles under the eyes;
  • Vitiligo;
  • coarse scars;
  • severe enlargement of subcutaneous vessels;
  • gaping pores.

The tinting serum only slightly softens irregularities and smooths contrasts, as its particles do not penetrate as deeply into the dermis as a tattoo. The visible signs of aging such as sagging skin, wrinkles and a puffy complexion cannot be eliminated even after repeated applications of BB Glow.

2) A dramatic brightening effect after a BB Glow treatment can only be observed with appropriately dark skin - phototypes IV-VI:

Due to the specific color and denser structure of Asian skin, for which the BB-Glow treatment was developed, cosmeticians have only a limited range of the schemes proposed by Korean experts at their disposal. Therefore, they cannot be sufficiently effective on the skin of European patients. Until BB Glow techniques are developed for skin types I-III, a significant brightening effect on lighter skin can hardly be expected.

3. The aesthetic effect of the procedure lasts for a year or more. However, continuous support is required.

The BB Glow Serum is injected into the top layer of the skin. This is constantly renewing itself, so for some people the "artificial" shade must be renewed every three months, for others monthly.

For a good result, 3-4 treatments are necessary at intervals of 2-3 weeks. In this way, problem areas such as freckles, post-traumatic pigmentation or age-related pigmentation can be concealed.

However, the maximum effect does not occur immediately. So, to get a beautiful complexion, you do not need to apply a foundation every day, as with normal BB creams, but also not as rarely as advertised.

An undeniable advantage of BB Glow is the reversibility of the treatment. When there is no longer a desire or opportunity to continue the treatment, the pigment is removed without residue or consequences; the skin remains in its original state. Superficial chemical or charcoal peels can accelerate the removal of pigment particles. A self-experiment is therefore always advisable.
