Buy dermal fillers: professional products for aesthetic applications

Dermal fillers are used in aesthetic medicine when volume, contour, skin structure or hydration are to be supported in a targeted way. The term is often used too broadly: not every injectable preparation is a classic volume filler. Skinboosters, biorevitalizers, polynucleotide gels and hybrid products follow different aims than a pure filler for volume restoration.

Clear classification Fillers, skinboosters and biorevitalizers clearly separated.
Selection by objective Volume, contour, hydration, skin quality or structure.
Check documentation Observe IFU, intended purpose, lot, expiry date and storage.

Which product suits which objective?

Product selection should start with the treatment objective. A volume filler, a skinbooster and a biorevitalizer are not interchangeable product groups.

Volume & contour

For volume restoration, shaping and defined contours, more stable HA fillers or suitable hybrid fillers are usually considered. Lifting capacity, area and injection plane are key.

Hydration & skin quality

Skinboosters and biorevitalizers focus more on hydration, skin structure and a more cared-for skin appearance. They do not replace a classic volume filler.

Eye area

The periocular area is particularly sensitive. Only use products explicitly intended for this area. Experience and complication management are mandatory here.

Structure & biostimulation

Polynucleotides and certain hybrid concepts are more closely associated with skin structure and tissue quality, not classic volume restoration.

Checklist before buying

Professionals should not choose dermal fillers by brand or price alone. Intended purpose, documentation, product status and suitability for the planned treatment concept are more relevant.

Is the product a medical device, cosmetic product or medicinal product?
Is the product injectable or for external use only?
Do intended purpose and planned application match?
For which areas is the product intended?
Which injection plane does the manufacturer specify?
Which needle or cannula is recommended?
Are CE marking and instructions for use available?
Are lot number and expiry date traceable?
Are storage and single-use requirements clear?
Is the user qualified for this application?
Practical rule: First check product status and manufacturer information, then define treatment objective, area and technique. Not the other way around.
!
For qualified professionals only

Injectable preparations are not intended for self-application. Application, indication, patient information, hygiene, injection technique and complication management belong in trained hands. Manufacturer information and national requirements are decisive.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable preparations placed in or under the skin, depending on their composition and product properties. The objective may be a volumizing effect, contouring, structural support or improvement of skin quality within professional aesthetic treatment concepts.

The best-known substance is hyaluronic acid. There are also products with polynucleotides, amino acids, peptides, calcium hydroxylapatite, poly-L-lactic acid or combined technologies. Not only the ingredient is relevant, but also the physical properties of the preparation.

i

In brief

A volume filler does not replace a skinbooster. A skinbooster does not replace a classic filler. For a technically clean product choice, objective, area, injection plane, product status and manufacturer information must fit together.

Dermal fillers, skinboosters and biorevitalizers: the differences

Many products are grouped under “filler” in everyday use, even though they are used differently in professional practice. This distinction helps with selection and reduces false expectations.

Product group Main objective Typical properties Not to be confused with
Classic hyaluronic acid filler Volume, contour, wrinkle filling Gel-like, more or less cross-linked depending on the product Skinboosters or pure care products
Hybrid filler Structure, volume and tissue support Combines different HA fractions or technologies A pure hydration product
Skinbooster Hydration and skin quality Often softer, less designed for projection Classic volume filler
Biorevitalizer Skin appearance, hydration, vitality in an aesthetic concept Often combines HA, amino acids, peptides or other ingredients Structure-giving filler
Polynucleotide preparations Skin structure and regenerative support in the aesthetic field Focus more on tissue quality than on volume HA volume filler

Which properties matter in dermal fillers?

The active ingredient concentration alone is not enough for selection. For professionals, gel structure, cross-linking, flow behavior, tissue integration and intended purpose are particularly relevant.

01

Cross-linking

Influences stability, shape retention and degradation behavior of hyaluronic acid fillers.

02

Viscosity

Describes how firm or fluid a gel is. Relevant for area, technique and distribution.

03

Cohesivity

Indicates how well the gel holds together. This can affect shape, integration and palpability.

04

Lifting capacity

Important for volume- or contour-oriented applications, provided the product is intended for this.

05

Injection plane

Must match anatomy, area and manufacturer information. No use outside the IFU.

06

Product status

Medical device, cosmetic product, topical product or medicinal product: this classification must be clear in advance.

Types of dermal fillers and related products

Hyaluronic acid fillers

HA fillers are among the commonly used temporary fillers. Depending on cross-linking and rheology, a preparation may be softer, more integrating, contouring or volume-building.

Hybrid fillers

Hybrid fillers combine different material properties, such as free and cross-linked hyaluronic acid or different molecular weights.

Skinboosters

Skinboosters focus less on projection and more on hydration, elasticity and skin quality. They are often used for broad-area treatment concepts.

Polynucleotide products

Polynucleotides are more closely associated with skin quality, tissue structure and regenerative concepts. They are not classified like classic volume fillers.

Biorevitalizers

Biorevitalizers often contain combinations of hyaluronic acid, amino acids, vitamins, peptides or other ingredients.

Topical products

Products marked “external use only” must not be injected. Product status and application instructions must be checked clearly before use.

Risks and limitations

Dermal fillers and other injectable preparations can cause side effects and complications. These include redness, swelling, bruising, pain, itching, nodules, infection, allergic reactions, product migration, granulomas or asymmetrical results.

Vascular complications require particular attention. Accidental injection into a blood vessel can lead to circulatory disorders. In rare cases, serious consequences such as tissue damage, visual disturbances or blindness have been described. This is why application does not belong in the private sphere or in inexperienced hands.

!
Not suitable for

Self-injection, home treatment, use without sterile technique, use outside manufacturer information, use without anatomical knowledge or use with unclear product identity.

Which products belong in a dermal filler category?

A clean category should show products relevant for aesthetic applications on skin, soft tissue or skin quality. Products for joints, pure care products without filler relevance or general practice accessories are better placed in separate categories.

Belongs in the category Only with clear labeling Better separate category
HA fillers Skinboosters Joint hyaluronic acid
Hybrid fillers Biorevitalizers Arthrosis or viscosupplement products
Polynucleotide skinboosters Cosmetic ampoules Pure care products without category relevance
Special eye-area preparations Hyaluronidase products according to product status General practice and laboratory accessories

Note: An ampoule for external use is not an injectable filler. A skinbooster is not a classic volume filler. A joint product is not a dermal filler for aesthetic applications.

Frequently asked questions about dermal fillers

What is a dermal filler?
A dermal filler is an injectable preparation used in professional aesthetic applications to support volume, contour, wrinkle filling or skin structure, depending on the product. Dermal fillers are often based on hyaluronic acid.
What is the difference between a dermal filler and a skinbooster?
A classic dermal filler is used more for volume, shape and contour. A skinbooster focuses more on hydration and skin quality. Many skinboosters do not produce a pronounced volume effect and should therefore not be used like classic fillers.
Are all products in this category injectable?
No. This must be checked for each product. Some products are injectable medical devices, others are cosmetic or topical products. If a product is marked “external use only”, it must not be injected.
Which dermal fillers last the longest?
Duration depends on material, cross-linking, area, metabolism, injection technique and product quantity. Temporary hyaluronic acid fillers break down over months depending on product and application. Longer-lasting or permanent materials have a different risk profile and must be assessed particularly carefully.
Are dermal fillers safe?
Dermal fillers can enable good aesthetic results when the indication is correct and application is professional. They are not risk-free. Possible issues include swelling, bruising, infections, nodules, allergic reactions, vascular complications or tissue damage.
Who may apply dermal fillers?
Application should be performed only by qualified professionals who understand anatomy, injection technique, hygiene, patient information and complication management. National legal requirements also apply.
Can dermal fillers be self-applied?
No. Dermal fillers are not intended for self-injection or home treatments. Purchase or use without appropriate qualification can lead to serious complications.
What must be checked before use?
Before every application, product status, intended purpose, instructions for use, expiry date, lot number, storage, contraindications, treatment objective, patient information and individual risks must be checked.
What is especially important with products for the eye area?
The eye area is anatomically sensitive. Products for this area must be explicitly intended for it. Injection technique, dosage, depth and complication management require special experience.
Do joint hyaluronic acid products belong to dermal fillers?
No. Hyaluronic acid products for joints, such as viscosupplements, belong in a separate category. They are not dermal fillers for aesthetic applications.
