BD Microlance™ 3 · 18 G × 40 mm

Large lumen for efficient aspiration – sterile single-use needle for professional use

The BD Microlance™ 3 in 18 G is a thin-wall, sterile single-use needle with a length of 40 mm and a pink colour-coded hub. The 18G version is frequently chosen in clinical practice for drawing up or aspirating medical fluids because its comparatively large lumen supports good flow. According to the manufacturer, Microlance™ 3 is intended for the injection and/or aspiration of medical fluids.

Practical benefit

Why the 18G version is convenient for drawing up fluids

When aspirating from ampoules, vials or other suitable containers, a sufficiently large lumen is important. The thin-wall design of Microlance™ 3 provides more usable internal cross-section than a thick-wall needle with the same outer diameter. This supports a higher flow rate and can reduce unnecessary force on the syringe plunger.

At the same time, it remains a regular hypodermic Microlance™ 3 needle. It should therefore not be confused with a blunt Blunt Fill needle designed solely for drawing up fluids.

Product features

Designed for a clear, reproducible workflow

  • 18G

    Thin-wall needle

1.20 mm outer diameter with thin wall thickness – for a larger usable lumen and good fluid flow.

  • Precisely ground tip

The Microlance™ 3 range features a precisely ground three-bevel tip; the 18G version uses the regular bevel.

  • L

    Luer compatible

Compatible with ISO-compliant Luer-Lok™ and Luer Slip syringes. Check secure fit before use.

  • Pink hub

The colour-coded, transparent hub makes it easier to identify the 18G size quickly during the workflow.

About the term “drawing-up needle”: In everyday practice, the 18G Microlance™ 3 is often used for drawing up fluids. However, BD’s official intended use is broader and includes the injection and/or aspiration of medical fluids. For a blunt needle designed exclusively for drawing up, BD offers dedicated Blunt Fill products.

Handling

Three points that matter in daily use

  1. Check the packaging

Use only if the sterile individual packaging is undamaged. Remove the protective cap immediately before use.

  2. Connect securely

Attach the needle to the Luer-Lok™ or Luer Slip syringe being used and check that it is securely seated.

  3. Single use only

Do not reprocess or resterilise after use. Dispose of it according to the applicable requirements for sharp medical single-use products.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers

Is the BD Microlance™ 3 18G intended only for drawing up?
No. Because of its large lumen, the 18G version is often used for drawing up or aspirating fluids. However, BD specifies injection and/or aspiration of medical fluids as the intended use of Microlance™ 3.
What is the advantage of the thin-wall design?
With the same outer diameter, the thinner needle wall leaves more internal cross-section for fluid flow. This is particularly useful when aspirating.
Does the needle fit Luer-Lock syringes?
Yes. According to BD, Microlance™ 3 can be connected to ISO-compliant BD® Luer-Lok™ and Luer Slip syringes.
How many needles are included in one pack?
One pack contains 100 sterile single-use needles.
Can the needle be reused?
No. It is a sterile single-use product. Reuse or resterilisation is not intended.
Which item number belongs to the 18G × 40 mm version?
The BD manufacturer REF is 303262. The prpmed.de shop item number is 100263; the PZN is 18469074.

Notes
