What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure in which fine needles are used to create microchannels in the uppermost layers of the skin. The treatment is usually carried out in a practice or professional beauty salon.

By irritating the skin, natural regeneration processes can be stimulated. This can visually improve the appearance of acne scars, fine lines and uneven skin texture and contribute to smoother, more even-looking skin. Pigment irregularities and light-induced skin ageing can also be reduced in appearance.

Important: Microneedling may only be carried out by trained specialists using suitable, hygienic systems. The effects mentioned refer to the cosmetic appearance of the skin and do not represent any healing or treatment promises in the medical sense.

What is a dermaroller?

A dermaroller is a needling instrument with many fine needles on a roller. It is used in cosmetics and dermatology to create controlled microchannels in the uppermost layer of the skin. This allows cosmetic active ingredients to be better distributed on the skin and positively influence its appearance.

How does a dermaroller work?

The dermaroller is rolled several times in different directions over the area of skin to be treated. The fine needles create superficial micro-injuries. This can stimulate the skin's natural regeneration processes and help to make the skin look smoother and more even. The dermaroller is often used to support the cosmetic treatment of acne scars, fine lines and uneven skin texture.

During treatment, a tightening or pricking sensation may occur; the strength and sensation depend on the needle length, technique and individual pain sensation.

What is hyaluronic acid?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring molecule in the human body. It is mainly found in the skin, connective tissue and joints. Chemically, it belongs to the glycosaminoglycans - long, water-binding carbohydrate chains. In the skin, it helps to store moisture and support a fuller, smoother-looking complexion.

What functions does hyaluronic acid perform?

Why is hyaluronic acid popular for microneedling?

Thanks to its special water-binding capacity (up to several times its own weight), hyaluronic acid can intensively moisturize the skin during a needling treatment:

  • make the skin look plumper and smoother
  • keep the skin surface supple
  • Microneedling creates microchannels in the skin. This allows suitable, sterile hyaluronic serums to be distributed evenly and develop their cosmetic effect more effectively.

Types of hyaluronic acid for microneedling

Hyaluronic acid is differentiated according to its molecular size - in simple terms, we speak of high molecular weight and low molecular weight hyaluronic acid. Larger molecules tend to remain on the surface, while smaller fragments can penetrate the upper layers of the skin more easily.

Crushed hyaluronic acid fractions are therefore often used in cosmetic formulations. In the INCI declaration, these are labeled as Hydrolyzed Sodium Hyaluronate, for example. Such low-molecular forms are also used in many professional products for device-based applications such as microneedling.

Microneedling involves the creation of controlled microchannels in the skin. In this context, it is important from a hygienic point of view to use only suitable, sterile hyaluronic preparations and to apply them under the cleanest possible or sterile conditions in order to minimize the risk of unwanted reactions. Many practitioners therefore work in such a way that a sterile hyaluronic serum is applied before or during the treatment and evenly distributed using Dermapen or Dermaroller.

It is crucial

  • only use products that are expressly intended for apparative/professional applications,
  • to ensure sterility and proper handling
  • and to only allow microneedling to be carried out by trained specialists.

To enable sterile working, the Hyaluron Serum from Utsukusy Cosmetics is supplied with a sterile needle and a sterile syringe.

This allows the serum to be removed sterilely through a plastic membrane.

APPLICATION

  • Before using the serum, the skin area to be treated must be thoroughly cleaned and disinfected.
  • First, the plastic cap must be opened in order to remove the serum.
  • A sterile syringe is then used to pierce the plastic septum and draw the serum into the syringe.
  • The needle is then removed from the syringe and the serum can be applied to the area of skin to be treated.
