What are PRP tubes?

What are PRP tubes and what are they used for?

PRP tubes used by medical professionals to isolate platelets while eliminating unwanted components such as red blood cells and inflammatory white blood cells. PRP tubes enable the extraction of high-purity autologous plasma with therapeutic properties. The PRP tubes contain a thixotropic gel that separates the supernatant plasma from the cellular components, allowing to obtain autologous plasma of a powerful therapeutic effect.

The substances contained in the PRP tubes used to manufacture them enable the production of autologous plasma, which is suitable for injection into the body. The separating gel forms a reliable barrier during centrifugation, which prevents the plasma from mixing with the erythrocyte extract.

Due to its regenerative properties, PRP has been used for more than ten years in many fields of medicine, including dentistry, maxillofacial surgery, cardiac surgery, orthopaedics, ophthalmology, urology, treatment of ulcers and wounds, etc.

Manufacturing process with PRP tubes

The preparation of PRP consists in collecting autologous venous blood (ie from the patient himself) in PRP tubes, which is then subjected to centrifugation in a PRP centrifuge and concentrated.

The process of preparing the PRP has been greatly simplified by adopting a protocol that requires the use of dedicated PRP tubes and a dedicated PRP centrifuge .

In fact, a small amount of venous blood (10-15 cm³) that the doctor takes from the patient's arm is enough to obtain the ideal concentration, which is obtained by introducing the blood into the special tubes, which are centrifuged for a few minutes .

With this method, by separation, we obtain the plasma, which contains highly concentrated blood platelets, which, once activated, produce the growth factors. The compound can be injected under the skin with both mesotherapy and classic direct infiltration into folds or skin folds.

Unlike synthetic fillers, PRP is made from components derived from the patient himself, to ensure the maximum biocompatibility and naturalness of the treatment and without the risk of intolerance, allergies or other immune reactions.

anticoagulant

The right choice of anticoagulant is one of the most important prerequisites for obtaining a therapeutically effective form of Platelet Rich Plasma.

The anticoagulant used in the manufacture of PRP must not only block blood clotting, ie the conversion of fibrinogen into fibrin, but also prevent premature activation of blood platelets.

Such anticoagulants are only sodium citrate based anticoagulants.

What causes platelet activation?

The right choice of anticoagulant is one of the most important prerequisites for obtaining a therapeutically effective form of Platelet Rich Plasma.

The anticoagulant used in the manufacture of PRP must not only block blood clotting, ie the conversion of fibrinogen into fibrin, but also prevent premature activation of blood platelets.

Such anticoagulants are only sodium citrate based anticoagulants.

Activation begins when the platelets lose contact with the endothelium of the blood vessel, but also under mechanical stress.

Let's take a closer look at the properties of anticoagulants:

» sodium citrate

Sodium citrate binds exogenous blood calcium, which is necessary for changes in the aggregation state and platelet activation, and thus deprives platelets of their ability for premature (in vitro) activation and degranulation (blocks platelet activation).

Sodium citrate-based anticoagulants are used worldwide in the manufacture of PRP.

» heparin

The effect of heparin on the blood is to stimulate antithrombin-3, which inhibits the formation of thrombin and the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin, ie it prevents the formation of fibrin clots (blocks blood clotting). Heparin has no effect on preventing premature platelet activation. In the case of heparin, the activation of the blood platelets with the release of growth factors begins as soon as the blood is drawn. Given that the lifespan of growth factors is 2 minutes from the moment of platelet activation, most growth factors enter tissues in a non-viable state.

Areas of application of the PRP tubes in medicine

The PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma), thanks to the high concentration of platelets, can induce biorepair processes through various growth factors released by the activation of platelets and through cytokines, molecular proteins capable of stimulating cell growth and activity.

Through these regenerative processes, PRP helps and improves the healing of many imperfections such as scars, alopecia, skin aging, acne, skin ulcers, etc. PRP also stimulates neo-angiogenesis, ie the development of new blood vessels from existing ones. PRP is able to enhance fibroblast proliferation and migration, collagen synthesis and necrotic cell removal.

PRP is widely used in dermatology, trichology, surgical oncology, gynecology, orthopedics, as well as in aesthetic and regenerative medicine.

In aesthetic and regenerative medicine, PRP (platelet-rich plasma) tubes are used to rejuvenate the cheeks, eyelids, lips, nasolabial folds, forehead, skin folds on the neck, back of the hands and cleavage. PRP is an autologous treatment. The blood from which the platelets are obtained is taken from the patient himself. There are no immune reactions.

Talk to your doctor about the positive aspects of PRP therapy and learn about the various medical and cosmetic issues that can help you treat it. For example, try PRP to stop hair loss or get PRP injection for facial defects. Ask your doctors about the effectiveness of PRP treatment for knee pain or PRP therapy for removing acne scars and blemishes.
